The tower functioned as a timekeeping tool, and still houses the enormous clock workings and pendulum from the late sixteenth century. In the setting of modern Hackney life this solitary medieval tower has a sense of being both out of place and out of time. This notion of being outside of time reinforces concerns already present in the work of the artists involved; through a variety of different media - including sculpture, video, performance, drawing and sound - all deal with issues of displacement at some level. Work in the show responds to the space both physically and contextually, with the unique nature of the building becoming an integral part of each artists' response.
Curated by Angela Huntbach

Open: 10th September - 19th September - Thursday to Sunday only. 12pm - 6pm.
Private View: Thursday 9th September 2004 6.30pm – 8.30pm.

more info check the site www.out-of-time.net

Adidas Shelltoes History 1984-2004

This a quite big collection of archieve footage from breakdance to skateboard since 1984 to present day, this is a kind of collage with mix animation and some crazy FX. It blends historic, rare and
unseen footage, videos, and photos with nostalgic sounds of the 80's and
90's, and contemporary music made especially for the film.

A TURBULENT JOURNEY FROM THE 80'S UNTIL NOW

Around 1980 sees the end of the initial skateboarding wave. In London,
Rolling Thunder, the only indoor skate park, has just shut its doors. By
1983, the English Skateboard Association has folded and skateboarding is
kept alive only by a handful of diehards.

A small revival occurred in 1985 due to its association with films such as
"Back To The Future", and other influences from America. This wave began to
gain international exposure and spawned the opening of new skate parks. Yet
once more during the 90's, due to lack of organization and falling revenues,
skate parks closed, magazines folded and people lost interest. Attitudes
within skater culture had become less communal. Skateboarding went back
underground.

Across the Atlantic, commercial momentum was steadily building through the
late 90's, exemplified by televised events such as "The X-Games" and the
ubiquitous "Tony Hawk Pro Skater" Playstation video game. Skateboarding had
come back with a vengeance. Today, skateboarding has come full circle and is
returning to its roots, so that negative attitudes give way to an
"everything's cool man" attitude, like in its earliest days.

WHERE DO WE GO FROM HERE?

Money is no longer a problem, but now it seems that the dangers of
history repeating itself through poorly managed organizations and facilities
are still apparent. Skateboarding needs to be heard in the Greater London
Authority, perhaps represented by a panel of people who understand the
issues, so that skateboarders don't lose out as they have in the past.

THE RISE TO ACCEPTANCE

After the first boom of the 70's, skateboarding had been ignored by society,
leaving it to small groups of passionate diehards to keep skating alive.
Today, skateboardings legacy is now consumed every day by the corporate
non-skating world, in music, TV, fashion, design and advertising, yet
skaters themselves feel left out.

A COMMINITY OF INDIVIDUALS

It takes a certain type of person to be a skateboarder, but it was never an
exclusive activity. It is one of the few scenes in London that could bring
together individuals from all walks of life in a positive manner. It serves
as a platform of expression and creates an atmosphere that pushes the
evolution of skateboarding. It constantly re-invents itself and affects
artistic and cultural communities open to it, such as Hip Hop, or Rock
music, and has massive influence on youth cultures in general, e.g MTV
generation.

LONDON

Rollin’ Through the Decades celebrates skateboarding’s journey from
Londons South Bank underneath the Queen Elizabeth Hall, spiritual
home of skateboarding since the early seventies, via the multi-
million dollar industry it is today, to a vision of a future where
skateboarders would benefit from their own legacy, without struggle
against ignorance. The future of skateboarding at South Bank is
continually under threat, and may soon be gone for good. What is
to become of the congregation that brought life to the greyness?

Words by Winstan Whitter

more info check the website

www.rollinthroughthedecades.com

Pelosi Productions Presents

by Helio Pelosi

Hi guys this is just a taste and a warm up for Pelosi Productions Presents , this blog is here for you to see the progress of PPP and see new updates and projects in production, also send your profile to my email and I will be doing some selection for upcoming projects and also an oportunity to work together.

helio@pelosiproductionspresents.com

Get in your Rocket and Follow me!

Get in your rocket and follow me! A film directed and produced by Helio Pelosi

‘Get in your Rocket and follow me!’ is a short documentary starring rockabilly Billy Gibbons who lives in the village of Audlem in Cheshire. It is quite an odd place, which sometimes has the slight feel of ‘League of Gentlemen’ about it. Still, Billy stands out , every aspect of his existence is somehow rooted in the 50’s era: from his clothes, house, car, music, to his rocket man die-cast toys which represent the obsession with space travel and sci-fi of that generation.
This documentary will demonstrate the lifestyle and multiple characters of this unusual man.

Helio Pelosi is a Brazilian filmmaker living in London. Helio has been making his own various short films, music videos and animations for the last four years, and has shown his work in various film festivals including The London Film Festival 2002.‘My work often explores various cultures; especially music, characters and environments. I always try to be innovative in my use of various media whilst also not disregarding the classic techniques, which seem to convey more atmosphere in their imperfection’. The event was filmed by Helio Pelosi and for four months the original six minutes reel sat in his house, unsure of what to do with it, when the More London project transformed in his mind after what he filmed that day at Stockwell, he realized that it was something that captured ‘real skateboarding’ and this was the initial aspects of the inspiration for More London, in Helio’s words, “Bring the roots back to where we are!” The sense of the love of movement, capturing a natural flow, as well as the migration of skateboarders from all parts of the world congregating in London, an international brotherhood united in one city, encompassing movement, adrenalin and friendship. Like any big city though there is a dualism in everything and skateboarding is no exception, with some parts of London skate scene consisting of anal latest trick, gear, train spotters and where attitude reigns supreme. That’s why for Helio, ‘Brixton Beach’ was one of the perfect spots representing his ideals towards how he views skateboarding, “Stockwell opens the door, no judgment, no ‘locals only’, just unity!” Helio’s description of the six minutes long trailer: “Filmed in unique locations in and around the city, More London brings together the joy of street skating and the lifestyles of skaters. It shows new styles and forms of the skaters experimenting and learning from urban context.” The More London trailer previewed as part of an exhibition in the Other Gallery\film theatre in London on 30 September 2003 accompanied by photography, animation, artworks and beats.
I was really stoked after I viewed it to find that far from being just another skate/documentary, that it is a piece of art, a visual collage of movement and sound, capturing the spirit of what skateboarding is and will always be, even while and after the corporate engineers plan for the plastic consumerisation of skateboarding finally cash in their last pound and move onto another lucrative industry that they can exploit… Filmed with a fish eye that creates a tunnel of depth to spots like ‘Brixton Beach’ and other familiar and unfamiliar landmarks of the London skate scene.

More London is due to be released around December 2004, so keep checking this blog for more updates and info on MORE LONDON Exhibition.
